Abstract

This letter proposes a novel model for the two-tier networks (macrocell and femtocell) by modeling the spatial distribution of macro base stations as a Poisson Point Process and femtocells are grouped but a majority of these groups are assumed to be located in the annular region of the macrocell coverage area, thus the spatial distribution can be modeled as second-order cluster process. The downlink coverage probability and the mean achievable rate are derived using the proposed two-tier networks model. Finally, performance is evaluated numerically and is validated against simulation results and compared with the performance of other models.
