Abstract

The effects of the modification of cobalt carbonyl complexes on the double carbonylation of phenethyl bromide were studied. The best cobalt catalyst for the double carbonylation was found to be Co 2(CO) 8 and that double/ monocarbonylation selectivity strongly depends on the nature of the phosphine. Solubility and electronic parameters seem to be predominant factors.
