Abstract

A 50 year old woman presented with calf oedema, pain, and paraesthesia of 48 hours duration. A duplex ultrasound scan showed a partially thrombosed popliteal venous aneurysm. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) revealed two isolated popliteal venous aneurysms (diameters of 28 and 16 mm, respectively) involving the same popliteal vein (A, arrows), with inner thrombus. CTA also identified a double system, with another non-thrombosed, non-aneurysmal popliteal vein. Resection of the venous segment, including both venous aneurysms, was performed (B). No reconstruction (e.g., venous bypass) was required because of the double venous system. The post-operative course was uneventful.Image 1
