Abstract

A new type of double scattering arrangement for measurements of the angular distributions of the asymmetry in inelastic proton scattering is described. The conditions for a maximum intensity at a given energy spread are investigated. It can be shown that an optimizing procedure results in an increase of the intensity of two or three orders of magnitude compared with conventional double scattering arrangements. In the case of low energy proton scattering it is possible to limit the background in a suitable way.
