Abstract

Lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) remains one of the most common complications following lung transplantation and often accompanied by renal insufficiency. Recent work has elucidated a novel subset of αβ T cell receptor positive CD4-CD8- (double-negative; DN) T cells in the kidneys, which have protective anti-inflammatory properties against IRI. We hypothesized that DN T cells are found in lung, are activated by IRI, and could be a new therapeutic target for the injured lung.
