Abstract

Byron et al (J. Phys. B. Atom. Molec. Phys.; 6: 357 (1973)) threw doubt on previous work of the present author (Tweed, J. Phys. B. Atom. Molec. Phys.; 6: 256 to 69 and 270 to 85 (1973)) concerning double ionization of helium- like atoms by high energy electron impact. It is agreed that, on the basis of experimental evidence, the factor of three, previously given, must be spurious. The reasoning which leads to this factor is again considered. (UK)
