Abstract
A new interpretation of the kinetic energy distributions of H- ions arising from double charge transfer of H+ impinging on CO is proposed. The measured vertical double ionisation of CO of 40.2 eV is expected to be too low by at least 1 eV and must be attributed to a singlet state rather than to a triplet.
