Abstract

The cross section for the double charge-exchange reaction of pions on 12C has been measured by nuclear emulsion and propane bubble chamber techniques in the energy region of the pion-nucleon (3,3) resonance. The cross section for the reaction 12C( π +, π −2p) 10C is compared with those calculated by using the Chew-Low model for the pion-nucleon interaction. The results calculated reproduce the dependence of the observed cross section on incident pion energies.
