Abstract

ABSTRACTCatherine Delpech-Hellsten explores the meaning of what Édouard Glissant calls “the Relation.” How can one describe Glissant's work and his intentions for writing? If we take into account the position of the exegete, the requirements and nature of the critical relationship, the epistemic and hermeneutic paths of inquiry beyond literature, it becomes evident that a new dimension—a new point of view—is emerging which can be equated to the ratio of Depth to Extension. This dialectic weaves throughout Glissant's poetics and indeed his entire work, leading to another fundamental question: How can we reread the concept of the Being, defined in terms of this ontological revolution?
