Abstract
The palm prints of Polish people (1475 adults and 702 children) were examined. The occurrence of dotted ridges on the palm was noted according to three categories. A higher percentage of dotted ridges was noted in children. They turned out to be more frequent in boys than in girls and in males rather than in females. In the author's opinion dotted ridges are connected with thin epidermis and more folded surface of ridged skin. Ridges seem to be cut into dots by sulci transversae-depressions between elevations caused by pairs of corium papillae. The developmental process of the corium papillae and epidermis may cause the disappearance of the transverse depressions of the ridge with age. Children with dotted ridges will be examined periodically in future.
