Abstract

Dot-matrix printers are becoming more widely available. A variety of different mechanisms are discussed — impact, thermal, ink-jet, spark-matrix, laser and light emitting diodes (LED). Features which distinguish between the outputs from these printers are considered. Defects of the printing mechanisms which can help identify an individual printer as the one responsible for the production of a suspect printout are described.
