Abstract

This article is dedicated to the access to weapons for self-defense in Poland. This is an issue that raises a lot of controversy and is nowadays certainly worth discussion. The following work raises the issue of the definition of firearms, their essential parts, the conditions for obtaining a permit for a gun, the subject of firearms in self-defense and possession of weapons in order to protect national security. Another issue that is raised are the shooting skills of people interested in possessing a gun, people’s preferences in the choice of weapon and finally psychological research performed on people interested in gaining permission and possession of weapons in the UK, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Germany.
