Abstract

Aristotle's "dialectical doxography", i.e. the analysis of opinions of ancient philosophers, is thefirst form of critical historiography in Antiquity. Through three examples from Metaphysics,we will attempt to demonstrate, against accusations of partiality directed at him, that Aristolewas amicable to a historical perspective in the modern sense.
