Abstract

Data regarding technical considerations and dosimetric outcomes in post mastectomy irradiation (PMRT) to tissue expanders (TEs) is limited. Inadequate PTV coverage, dosimetric implications of metallic ports, and increased dose to organs at risk have been cited as potential issues. Increased incidence of surgical complications in the final reconstruction, and suboptimal cosmetic outcomes, have been reported and attributed to fibrosis and alterations in vasculature resulting from radiation. We report on 40 patients treated at our institute, receiving PMRT to TEs, followed by oncoplastic breast reconstruction.
