Abstract

Immediate tissue expansion with temporary expanders after mastectomy is common due to evidence for improved cosmetic and psychosocial outcomes. However, these expanders contain metallic breast expander ports (MBEP) and a dense magnetic port locator which can cause dose attenuation and significant artifact. Furthermore, the dosimetric impact, variability in contouring, heterogeneity corrections, as well as clinical outcomes of radiating with MBEP have not been fully characterized. Here we further characterize the dosimetric impact of MBEP.
