Abstract

The dose delivery to movable targets inside the lung requires precise patient positioning and advanced treatment techniques. One promising approach is to treat the patient during computer controlled breathhold. Before the irradiation the correct position of the tumor can be determined based on 3D-on-board cone-beam CT (CBCT) image guidance. To get CBCT datasets without motion artifacts it is proposed to acquire a full 3D dataset within one breathhold phase. Long image acquisition times of ∼60-120s for CBCT still limit the number of patients who can undergo online volume image guidance under breathhold.
