Abstract

The present work looks into the property changes of polypropylene as a reaction to post-proton irradiation at different doses. In this context, some characterisation techniques viz. Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction analysis were used to understand the induced modifications in the physico-chemical properties of the polymer. Increase in crystallinity, decomposition temperature and melting point with proton dose was observed indicating the induction of some cross-linking effect by proton irradiation.
