Abstract

Liquid ventilation with oxygenated perfluorocarbons (PFC) has been shown to improve pulmonary gas exchange and lung mechanics in preterm animals with respiratory failure [1–4]. Histological studies also reveal that liquid ventilation is less harmful to the lung structures than conventional gas ventilation [3,5].
