Abstract
Two new species of Rubiaceae are described from Sierra de los Tuxtlas in southern Veracruz, Mexico: Arachnotrhyx pumae (Guettardeae) and Hoffmannia altipetens (Hamelieae). Arachnotrhyx pumae is similar to A. buddleioides and A. villosa, but it differs by the triangular stipules, 2.0 to 3.0mm long, lax inflorescence, floral bracts of 3.0mm long and 1.0mm width, 10-ribbed fruit and the folded seed. Hoffmannia altipetens is characterized by cystoliths on the leaf veins, inflorescences with 2 to 6 axis per node and white fruits.
