Abstract

We report a new type of Doppler-free three-photon resonance observed as dips in the Doppler bias of the 16601.88 cm -1 Na 2 two-photon transition. These resonances are essentially cross-resonances between one- and two-photon processes in a three-level system with a nearly (i.e. within a Doppler width) resonant intermediate level. Their observation allows an unambiguous identification of the intermediate and ground rotation-vibration levels in two-photon molecular spectroscopy. This identification has been performed for the 16601.88 cm -1 Na 2 two-photon transition.
