Abstract

Doppler ultrasound blood velocity and electromagnetic flowmeter outputs of simulated partial intraluminal arterial obstructions were recorded. Stenoses producing little change in measured blood flow were demonstrated to produce a large reduction in Doppler blood velocity output. The authors offer an explanation of this unexpected result, based upon localized flow phenomena.
