Abstract
Doppler-free two-photon transitions are induced in nitric oxide with blue, narrowband, tunable radiation generated by a frequency-stabilized cw dye ring laser. The recorded two-photon spectra provide a precise measurement of the spin-rotation splitting of the excited rotational levels (A 2∑ +, ν' = 0) N' = 1 to N' = 19. The splitting constant γ is determined to be γ = 80.35(15) MHz.
