Abstract

Phase matched resonant degenerate wave mixing in a Doppler broadened gas medium is shown to give rise to narrow spectral lineshapes even for non-dollinear arrangements. The effect is related to velocity selection in more than a single direction. Numerical calculations for six-wave mixing were well verified experimentally for CO 2 laser diffraction on low pressure SF 6.
