Abstract
The dependence of Doppler bandwidth on transducer beam axis to flow angle for different sample volume geometries is computed, using the Fresnel–Kirchhoff diffraction integral. The computed Doppler bandwidths are shown to agree with experiment. The numerical analyses suggest that a finite Doppler bandwidth exists even for flows parallel to the axis of a continuously transmitting focused transducer, due to the pressure variation along the beam axis.
