Abstract

From the analytic expressions of the spin-lattice coupling coefficients for 6S-state ions in cubic symmetry obtained from the spin-orbit coupling mechanism, the coefficients G11 and G44 were calculated for KMgF3:Mn2+ crystal by using two adjustable parameters (average covalency reduction factor N and effective charge qeff of the ligands) obtained from optical spectra. The absolute values of the calculated results are consistent with the experimental findings and the signs of the coefficients G11 and G44 are determined.
