Abstract

A series of novel electroluminescent bispyridyl compounds, which contain central thiophene, benzene, and naphthalene cores, are synthesized and used as light emitting diode (LED) dopants in LED polymer blends. Several single-layer electroluminescent (EL) devices are fabricated by spin-coating various molecularly doped polymer blends (comprising bispyridyl compounds as the guests and poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as the host) onto indium–tin–oxide (ITO) glass. The photoluminescence (PL), EL, and current–voltage ( I– V) properties of these doped LED polymers are studied.
