Abstract
Subjective memory disturbance during the course of an episode of major depression was positively and highly significantly correlated with the homovanillic acid to 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (HVA/5HIAA) ratio in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 206 patients with RDC major depressiva disorders. Cognitive impairment in affective disorders is suggested to be related to an altered functional interaction between serotonergic and dopaminergic neuronal systems.
