Abstract

A simple 16-bit processor core called DOP suitable for embedded systems is presented. The core was implemented in the Xilinx FPGA devices. The DOP processor illustrates the fundamental principles of computer organization and is therefore used in the introductory hardware course. This paper presents the description of the core, its implementation as well as the description of tools and teaching methodology.
