Abstract

The synthesis of vinylidene, trans-[(dppm) 2ClMCC(H)(R)]PF 6, and σ-acetylide complexes, trans-[(dppm) 2ClMCCR] (M = Ru, Os; dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane, Ph 2 PCH 2 PPh 2; R = p-C 6H 5, p-C 6H 4C 6H 5, p-C 6H 4 2, C 6H 32-(CH 3)-4-NO 2, p-C 6H 4CH 3), and a single-crystal X-ray determination of trans-[(dppm) 2ClRuCCC 6H 4- p-NO 2] are reported. The metal-phosphine fragment in these complexes acts as a donor and communicates with the para-substituted nitro acceptor group through the backbone. Such an interaction helps create a delocalized charge-transfer state from the donor to the acceptor.
