Abstract

The enthalpies of formation of the mercury-thallium system have been determined calorimetrically over the temperature range 257–583°K and the thermo-dynamic functions derived over the same temperature interval. Some interferences have been drawn regarding the structure of liquid thallium amalgams; pure liquid thallium is suggested as trivalent whereas in dilute solution thallium is monovalent.
