Abstract

This chapter focuses on the domino olefin metathesis reactions, and single-precatalyst-induced metathesis/non-metathesis transformations. It also covers combinations of the various metathesis modes. The chapter is subdivided according to the structural patterns of the products rather than the type of domino sequence. Reaction sequences comprising enyne metathesis steps, that is, those starting from precursors with C-C triple bonds are covered in the chapter. The chapter presents an example for an ROM/CM sequence starting from a strained medium sized ring. It focuses on the formation of dumbbell-type products through ring-closing metathesis (RCM)/ ring-opening metathesis (ROM)/RCM sequences. The chapter discusses the sequences consisting of metathesis steps and subsequent non-metathesis transformations, in which the non-metathesis reaction is catalyzed by a metal complex resulting from a triggered degradation of the original metathesis catalyst.
