Abstract
In this paper we first characterize the class of contest success functions that yield contests with dominant strategies. Then we study the optimal contest as a decision problem under uncertainty. We show that for maximin, Laplace and Hurwicz criteria the optimal contest takes the form of an additively separable cut-off contest success function.
