Abstract

Domestic violence is the most serious violation of all basic rights that a woman suffers in her own home at the hands of members within her own family. There was a need to evolve a legal mechanism to provide such relief to victimized women in marital homes or parental homes, wherever there is violation of personal rights. The new civil law on domestic violence - the protection of women from domestic violence Act 2005 - addressed the gap. The law seek to protect all women and children facing violence at the hands of their family members such as husbands, fathers, brother, live in partners, etc. and merely from their husbands.
