Abstract
Having discussed in Chapter 1 various domestic and international factors in trade policymaking, and having developed a series of hypotheses to examine the relationship between domestic politics and international relations during a particular trade negotiation, it is time to put such analytical tools to use, and to begin to explore the relationship between domestic politics and international relations in the trade policymaking of certain countries, during particular trade negotiations. This chapter demonstrates how the analytical tools described in Chapter 1 can be used to explore the relationship between domestic politics and international relations in the trade policymaking of the United States and Japan and in US—Japan trade negotiations.
