Abstract
The article briefly presents the pre-Soviet historiography of the scientific works of the outstanding Russian scientist Nikita Yakovlevich Bichurin on the basis of previously published author's monographs «Essays on the history of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Beijing (mid-XVIII – early XX century)» (2020) and «Nikita Yakovlevich Bichurin (Archimandrite Iakinf)» (2021). Modern researchers pay tribute to his multifaceted activities and emphasize his enormous contribution to the creation and development of Sinology. He wrote a Russian-Chinese dictionary, books about China, made translations of the classic works of Confucianism, and also studied the history and geography of neighboring states bordering on the territory of China. He changed the idea of the culture of China, its history in the Russian society of that time.
