Abstract

Several methods for estimating domains of non-global asymptotic stability and regions of resilience for biological systems, expressed by difference equations, are presented. Two examples of their application are given: 1. (a) single species, two age-class model, with density-dependent survival from one age-class to another, 2. (b) the discrete homologue of the Lotka-Volterra predator-prey system with density-dependent prey fecundity of the logistic type. A general notion of resilience is discussed in the light of the techniques.
