Dom Jean Leclercq (mort en 1993) est un moine cistercien. Dans sa tentative continuelle de definir les caracteristiques essentielles de la theologie monastique, Leclercq a mis l'accent sur la notion d'experience. La theologie monastique suppose une certaine experience spirituelle et ici, Leclercq fait reference a Anselme et a Bernard de Clairvaux. La connaissance des contextes social et intellectuel des ordres religieux du XII e siecle conduit Leclercq en 1978 a presenter un panorama des theologies a cette epoque
