Abstract

Background: Our previous report(1) showed that indigocarmine (IC) spray during colonoscopy detects increased numbers of colorectal adenomas, however it is not clear if IC spray increases the detection rates of advanced adenomas. Methods: Our previous data were re-analyzed. Patients had been randomly allocated into 2 groups; Group A (n=200): a Japanese colonoscopist with expertise in the use of IC spray performed chromo-colonoscopy; Group B (n=200): for the initial 100 patients (B-1), a Western colonoscopist with no previous experience with IC spray performed conventional colonoscopy, but with a minimum 10 minutes observation time during colonoscope withdrawal; for the next 100 patients (B-2), he performed chromo-colonoscopy with IC spray.
