Abstract

Introduction: Developmental Dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common cause of hip pain and a leading cause of early-onset hip osteoarthritis. Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) aims to delay progression of osteoarthritis in those with DDH. As with any surgical procedure there are risks of complications, resulting in long-term pain and reduced function. The most common major surgical complication following PAO is bone non-union. Appropriate bone healing is a major focus of early rehabilitation as it allows full weightbearing capacity and physical activity progression.
