Abstract
Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) can choose a northern or a southern route around Vancouver Island during their homing migration to the Fraser River. The percentage of fish taking the northern route has varied from 10–70% during the last 29 years. This has created problems in the management of sockeye salmon in southern British Columbia, Canada.
