Abstract

BACKGROUND: During sperm preparation for intrauterine insemination (IUI), characteristics such as agglutination and presence of white blood cells (WBCs) are noted. Agglutination may suggest an immunological factor with respect to fertility and may be related to WBC presence, which is a suspected contributing factor to male infertility. Agglutination has been noted as a covariate in previous studies of IUI success, but not as a predictive factor. We hypothesized that the presence of agglutination or WBCs would decrease the likelihood of pregnancy.
