Abstract

Elevated 2nd trimester maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein (MSAFP; ≥2.5 multiples of the median [MoM]) is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preeclampsia (PreE), fetal growth restriction, and stillbirth. However, there is no well-defined predictive threshold. We evaluated the association of elevated MSAFP with adverse pregnancy outcomes, how well the MSAFP values predict these outcomes and whether prediction varies by race/ethnicity.
