Abstract

Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-first Century makes the assertion that r > g, or that the rate of capital increase will, generally speaking, outstrip the growth rate of the economy. In this paper I will show that the available statistics regarding ancient Sparta, though sparse, do support Piketty’s theory.
