Abstract

In this article, the author analyses the proposed EU debt-equity bias reduction allowance (DEBRA) Directive proposal, which has been temporarily suspended. This pause provides an opportunity to determine whether or not the existing measures in Spain for reducing the unequal tax treatment of debt and equity are sufficient and, therefore, whether or not measures like those in the Proposed DEBRA Directive are even necessary or recommendable in Spain.
