Abstract

A Web survey of 400 SNS users in South Korea was conducted to examine gender differences between SNS user groups and to assess whether women effectively use SNS as a tool for political participation. A regression analysis revealed that first, although it is not significantly proved, statistical verification showed that men are more active than women in political networking, Second, both men and women were proven to be more active in online participation than offline participation. Third, more ideologically liberal women were more likely to vote on Election Day if they had acquired political information through SNS beforehand. Fourth, and most important, SNS does influence political participation both online and in the real world. As a result, we assume that SNS is a great tool for political participation and has more effect on ideologically liberal people.
