Abstract

Hepatitis B virus(HBV) has been detected in the semen of infected males, either as free virus in the plasm, or an integrated genome in spermatozoa, and in the ovum or follicular fluid in infected females. There is some evidence that active HBV infection, determined by HBV Surface antigen positivity, can have an effect on ART outcomes. There is a lack of data on the influence of past HBV infection, identified by HBV Core antibody positivity and a negative HBV surface antigen test, on outcomes following IVF or ICSI.
