Abstract
Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the effect that party alliance has on gubernatorial elections in Japan. The results of the analysis reveal that party coalitions backing candidates are not the most important determinant of election victory and that the electorate's choice of candidates differs from the choice of political parties.
