Abstract

Purpose: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most common chronic-degenerative joint diseases in individuals aged 40 years or more. KOA is characterized to cause numerous negative impacts on joint adjacent tissue, such as muscles. It is already known that decreasing in muscle mass associated with increased adipose tissue are characteristics that have contributed to the progression of KOA. Similarly, the aging process causes changes in cross-sectional area, decrease in muscle mass, and increase in fat deposit on muscles.
