Abstract
Are highly virulent HIV-1 strains circulating? Wymant etal.1 described the first concrete example of a virulent HIV-1 strain associated with high viremia and fast CD4 Tcell decline. This is certainly not an isolated case, emphasizing the need for thorough HIV-1 surveillance and universal access to treatment.
