Abstract

LEARNING OUTCOME: To describe the impact of nine sessions of dietary intervention with an individualized fat gram goal on total fat, fruit, vegetable and grain intake among a group of older women.Long term dietary intervention (Dl) may improve women's hearth by lowering the risk of certain chronic diseases. Subjects in the Women's Hearth Initiative Study are encouraged to remain within an individualized fat gram goal and consume ≥5 servings of fruits and vegetables (F/V), and ≥ 6 servings of grains (G) per day. The first year of Dl consists of 18 sessions; 9 occur during the first 3 months, and subjects are encouraged to self-monitor using food records, and Fat Scans at least 3 days per week. This analysis examined the effect of the first 3 months of Dl at the Nevada Center. The study sample was 27 women, mean age (63.7 ± 6.9 years). Scores for fat gram intake, F/V servings, and G servings were calculated using ”The Fat Counter.” Scores were determined at Session 4 and 9 and compared to baseline values from 4 day food records.
